On our trip to Florida (from Illinois), our car started sputtering and wouldn't accelerate properly. We stopped at Carl's and they had us in and out in 20 minutes. They SAVED our vacation. They were kind and knowledgeable and good. 10/10 would recommend.
I'm from northern IL, and my family and I were traveling from home, to northern Alabama to visit my parents on Christmas Day, and we got into an accident on the highway in Elizabethtown. Carl's was the closest tow company, and the man on duty (I don't remember his name) agreed to come and get us. As it was Christmas Day, and absolutely nothing was open, he was very helpful in finding some place to drop us and all of our luggage (for two adults, a small child, and an infant) off. Aside from this, everything that unfolded afterward was absolutely ridiculous. First of all, when my insurance company sent a tow truck to bring my car to the facility where my car would be inspected for an estimate, Carl's forgot to send my keys with my car, and it is apparently protocol for them to do so. Then, after being inspected, my car was towed to the shop that would further inspect my car, still without keys. Now, at this point, I'm still unaware that Carl's had my keys sitting an an office, forgotten about. In fact, I wasn't even informed of my missing keys until 2 weeks after the accident occurred. Skip forward a few days, after insurance calling around, they find my keys! In an office, at Carl's, forgotten about. The shop my car was at could not even start their estimate without my keys. Another week went by, and I find out, even though it's their fault my keys were missing in the first place, that Carl's Auto Care & Towing is now refusing to cooperate, and will not pay to ship my keys to the shop. Now, I'm going to reiterate that I live in Northern IL, about a 5 hour drive from Elizabethtown, otherwise I would have gone and gotten my keys myself!! The shop my car was at in Louisville then decided that they would pay for shipping my keys, and insurance agreed to cover it. A field agent from my insurance actually ended up driving to Carl's to get the keys and then drove them 50 minutes to the shop in Louisville. That was 3 days ago. Today, insurance coverage for my rental car ended, and work hasn't even been started on my car. 25 days went by without ANYTHING happening with my car because the people at fault for losing my keys refused to cooperate. (Ahem, Carl's). I get that the accident was not their fault, but everything that unfolded since the accident has been directly their fault. They also told me that they don't do repairs, which must have been a lie considering all of the nice reviews on here tell me that they do, in fact, do repairs. Maybe it's because I'm from out of town, and they don't want to deal with it, whatever, but the way they handled this whole situation is very, very, unprofessional and caused me and my family a lot of unnecessary stress. I would not recommend this tow company to anybody, ever.
Carl's did a good job repairing our truck when it broke down on vacation. Fairly reasonable prices but very disappointed they would not use the new alternator we got the night before for $130 less!
I would think if a vehicle is dropped off and a radiator cooling fan is what is requested you don't change a perfectly good thermostat and then saying that the engine type is notorious for over-heating and can't be repaired. I had already removed faulty fan. You didn't realize it was missing?
But they did work quickly and we were able to finish our trip.
I hope this helps Mike (mechanic?)
Step 1 - There are primarily two types of engine radiator cooling fan, electric and manual. A manual fan is connected to the engine drive pulleys and is controlled by a thermo fan clutch which senses radiator heat and engages when the engine is running at higher temperatures. These thermo reactive clutches are constructed to "freewheel" when not in use, and become connected using a silicone grease which expands when heated. This unit uses a set of shaft bearings and seal to retain lubricant and are normally bolted to the water pump of the engine. A clutch fan can fail one of two ways, it can either lock up causing poor mileage accompanied by a whirring sound, (like a small airplane is taking off.) Or the silicone grease can leak causing the fan to "freewheel" while failing to pull air through the radiator.

Nice gentleman came and got me after I hit a road hazard and blew a tire at 4AM on I-65 North. So glad someone answered the phone at this hour, as I was stranded alone in a rental car and very frightened. The tire could not be fixed, so he carried me and the car to the tire store. Very happy with the short-notice after hours service from Carl's!
Only reaso you get 1 star is they won't let me give you zero
